Everybody is going on about how Arsenal is taking the Carling Cup more seriously in desperation for a trophy by playing a stronger team. I could not disagree more; we have made 9 changes from the weekend, played with a mixture of young and fringe players. They are the same players that used to play in the Carling Cup ties in the last few years; the only difference is they are better and more mature now.

These young promising players of yesteryear are looking like the real deal now. Going away to Sp*rs and Newcastle in consecutive ties and scoring 4 each time speaks volumes for them. The most pleasing of all is, it looks like we have got a very promising young keeper in Szczesny with a great future.  What I saw from my first experience of watching him is; he is big (6”5’) but athletic, good reflexes, brave and comes out for crosses, he also looks to have good distribution. I especially like the way he spread his body, much like Schmeichel , to parry Gutierrez attempt on 1 and 1 situation. You can see Bob Wilson’s thoughts on the young Polish keeper as well as some of his saves on the video clip "Bob Wilson on Szczesny" at our home page.

We should have been 1 or 2 up before we went ahead with a fortuitous goal. A cross caused all sorts of problems deep in their box before Bendtler‘s header was cleared off the line, only to be rebounded into their net off via back of theirs goalie’s head.

Live wire Walcott added the second in the second half, when put clear through with a lovely finish, lifting the ball delightfully over their goalie who had gone down trying to spread his body.

Newcastle tried to get back into the game by bringing on a couple of their big guns but although Jonas Gutierrez caused some trouble to Sagna who replaced the unlucky, ‘injured again’ Gibbs, they found our defence in a very mean mood with a inspired goalkeeper behind them.

Bendtler looking really good scored a peach of a goal when he cut in from the left and curling a beauty with his right boot into far top corner from 18 yards. That killed the game off but the boys still had enough hunger to score another goal through man of the match Walcott. He raced clear through in a similar fashion to his first goal, this time he finished it off clinically, slotting a low shot under the rushing out keeper.

I need to mention the disgraceful behaviour of Barton towards the end of the game when we were 4-0 up. He went around kicking our players for no apparent reason, what a spiteful, horrible being he is.
