World Cup Widow

By Ilch

The World Cup is over!  It is over........ Yes it really is!  There is a man in my household and there is probably one in yours that is now acting completely and utterly like a fish out of water.  Imagine a wet wriggly fish not knowing which way to turn, gasping for air, taken away from its comfort – all you want to do is throw it back in the water and put it out of its misery.  A slightly morbid picture, however be honest it does describe our husbands, boyfriends, fathers, brothers and male species in general.

For once I WANT the football season to START ... yes the sooner the better.  Our guys have spent the last month watching 3 games a day...... bad enough when it went down to 2 games a day however the knowledge that the next day and the day after that, there would be football kept them going – almost like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey – take that any way you want!!

I want my boys to be thrown back into the world of footie just like the fish that is thrown back into the water – that way they will be back to normality able to breathe again – in their comfort zone.

The highlight – the final of the world cup – I was going for Holland..... Because Van Persie plays for Holland but then I had a change of heart.  My eldest son had gone to Spain so I changed to Spain. Why?  Well only a mother can think this way and it was purely for the fact that he would be holidaying in a country that has won the World Cup – imagine the scenes he must have seen, the joy, the celebrations and just the mere buzz of a country that wins the World Cup for the first time ever!

One thing makes me sad though – I don’t know if I am justified or even right in saying this but originally I did not want Spain to win because of the following reason – Fabregas (from what I saw) was not always a starting player. In my head I thought that he would realize that he is number 1 for us (Arsenal) but he does not seem to be No 1 for Spain – same goes for the team he is hoping to join – Barcelona – will they play him all the time with the quality of players they have.  I just hoped he would see that and realize that if he stayed with us he is guaranteed to start always and he is idolized and worshiped by so many gooners. He loves playing football – will he really be happy sitting on the bench!!

On a different note I am sorry to say that England were rubbish!

I think the Germans were the best team in the tournament and I have to add with an air of pride that their best player is in fact ...... a TURK!! Ozil – yes I know his mum well – nice family!!!

Shame Turkey did not get in this year – I did hear a rumour that summer this year in Turkey was going to be particularly hot!!  I do not doubt for a second that that had something to do with the Turks not getting through – well let’s face it – football pitch or beach..... I know which one I would choose!!
