The good news:

It looks like we will be finishing 3rd in the league this season which means we won’t have to go through the horrible qualifying round for the Champions League next season.  It also means that it is an improvement from last season.

The bad news:

We used to consider finishing 2nd as a failure not so long ago.  Need I say more?

I am not going to go on about neither the goalkeeper situation nor the shortage of experienced players in the squad.  Instead I will recommend that you watch forthcoming Gunner Talk Episode 07- which I intend to finish editing by midweek - and listen to the fans’ view.  We have never encountered so many fans united in saying the same thing: We need to buy players! Playing Manchester City who can buy almost any player they like did probably spur the fans in their views.

The game itself had a ‘steady the ship’ feeling from both teams, understandable after last weeks’ results.  Van Persie starting a game for the first time in 5 months and finishing it was the highlight of the game for me.  Yes, it was a dire game where both sides were so scared to lose; neither team had hardly a shot at goal.  Thank god for that as we had Flabianski in between the sticks for us.

On the positive side, Diaby played much better then he has been recently, Silvestre was decent for a change, Song proved yet again that he is the most improved player in the premiership and Sol was great again. Especially the block he put in when the OLD Arsenal legend Viera went through on goal was awesome. I think he we should sign him up for the next season - only if he promises not to interfere with the Professor’s experiment!

The only regret I have from yesterday’s game is that we could not take that immensely annoying smirk of even more annoying Ade-be-hore’s face by winning the game but he did get the reception a person lacking class like him deserves.

Very interesting summer lays ahead for the future of Arsenal and Wenger. Will he finally start spending to improve the squad or will he stick with his experiment?

What do you think?
