Build up to Barcelona

By Ilch

Tuesday 7th April 2010 – Barcelona v Arsenal – according to my boys – a crucial game! Arsenal must win! It breaks my heart to see the distressed looks on their faces, the anguish, the intensity, the pure frustration …. And all these emotions started the minute the final whistle blew last week when we faced Barcelona at home!!

Now Ladies I am sure that after years of being a fellow football widow you are experienced enough to deal with the build up, the actual match itself and the two possible scenarios after the match. However for those of you who, perhaps have not quite got into the routine, or those of you who, for whatever reason decided to go out with an Arsenal supporter …… I have come up with a guide that will keep your relationship fine and dandy no matter what the result may be:

Your man will at any given opportunity have lengthy discussions with his mates/family members regarding the oncoming match. No doubt everything will be discussed from the formation of the team to the weather on the day. Ladies this is the very same man you can hardly get two words out of when trying to hold a discussion on important things like, money, work, children or even “does my bum look big in this dress”! Yes I too in my younger years have been astonished, astounded and damn right flabbergasted at the sheer fact that my fella can in fact have a conversation!! Granted it is not a conversation that I am part of – and let’s face it even when I did try to be a “part of it” the tuts, the eyes rolling and the short sharp annoyed responses quickly told me to ….. Say nothing!!!!

Let’s get to the match day itself – now I see this as a WONDERFUL opportunity for retail therapy myself – and if finances do not allow that then wellyou know what I do? I have my nails done!

Now let’s get to after the match – there are two possible endings and we will of course cover both:

The unspeakable has happened!! Now I used to think that a kiss, a cuddle and some reassuring words would make everything better …….Apparently Not!! I used to think that “Love you” would bring a smile back to his face …..Definitely Not!! Ladies, trust me on this one … the best course of action is …..Don’t go anywhere near him!! The living room is out of bounds – leave him alone – I don’t particularly want to liken my big strong man to a puppy dog but just like a little puppy dog he will come find you when he has recovered!!!

We beat Barcelona and are through – “Oh Happy Days” – now ladies this is the moment in time when you can actually get that dress you have been ogling for days (or weeks) or that handbag that matches the shoes that you have already got but have not got round to telling him yet!! You can so take advantage of the situation and my advice to you would be “do it” – why not? Just imagine the previous scenario and then you will realize that you deserve it!!

On that note I wish Arsenal the best of luck on Tuesday and yes there is a dress that I have been looking at recently ……. So please Arsenal, do it for all the Gunners in the world, do it for my husbands sanity and do it for that dress that so goes with the shoes I have – SSSSSHHHH he don’t know about those ….. Yet!
